The calendar has turned to March, which means AEW revisits its annual spring show, Revolution. An eternity has passed since Full Gear and the landscape of AEW feels very different. The fire returned in 2023 with a string of amazing shows (with one stinker) leading up to this event. Every single feud has had a great storyline build, which is a big departure from the norm of AEW PPVs.
Let’s get predicting!
AEW Trios Championship: The Elite (c) vs. House of Black
Some might say that this match has had zero build. Some might say that the House of Black just showed up and received a trios championship match with the Elite.
Those people are wrong
For those who have paid attention, The House of Black have targeted the Elite for two weeks with zero response from the champs. Malakai Black isn’t a fan of being ignored, so he and the House made their presence known during the Young Bucks’ magnificent match against Aussie Open last Friday on Rampage and, consequently, upset the champs. A championship match was the only possible outcome! This match is going to be amazing.
But who wins?
I’m worried about the House of Black. They are fresh off of an awesome story of corrupting Eddie Kingston, but will that strategy work on the Elite? The House feels reignited after taking some time off. Can they ride their newfound momentum to the pinnacle of the Trios division? Equally important, can the House survive a loss and sustain that momentum?
Hopefully, they do sustain that momentum because The Elite are on fire and probably not losing. I would love to see one of my personal favorites, Malakai Black, finally win a title in AEW, but it’s going to need to wait. The match will still be a match of the night contender!
Winner: The Elite
Wifey: The Elite
A part of me is curious about what could happen if a member of The Elite gets sprayed with the Black Mist, however.
AEW Tag Championship: The Gunns (c) vs. The Acclaimed vs. Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett vs. Orange Cassidy & Danhausen
Okay, first things first. Yes, this match is the odd duck on the card, with four teams battling it out in what should be a wacky fatal four way. However, this match is sure to be a palate cleanser on a bloody card of pain. There’s a Texas Deathmatch, a Final Burial match, and the Iron Man main event. That’s three guaranteed matches of blood and guts. This match won’t receive any match of the night honors, but it should entertain nonetheless.
But who wins?
The sheer number of contestants here leads me to believe that The Gunns steal the victory somehow. They have never shown any sort of supreme ability, outside of being smarmy heels. What do smarmy heels excel at? Stealing victories to earn the ire of the crowd. Maybe Daddy Ass officially turns on The Acclaimed to help his kids once more. The Gunns continue to make the internet angry by winning a surprising match.
Winner: The Gunns
Wifey: The Acclaimed
Texas Deathmatch: Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Adam Page
Despite losing the AEW Championship to MJF, Jon Moxley and the Blackpool Combat Club are one of the biggest dogs in the company. Moxley and his stablemates also had a shift in attitude this past week, with a nasty aura about all of them. Has his war with Hangman Adam Page caused it? Both Moxley and Page have had multiple head injuries and brutal matches throughout the feud.
Adam Page has tried to show how tough he is, as well, but Moxley has gotten the best of him lately. Can the Cowboy show up in a match that’s made to test one’s toughness – a Texas Deathmatch?
I think Adam Page will absolutely show how tough he is. That being said, Jon Moxley owns these kinds of matches. Moxley wins a bloody battle of attrition.
Winner: Jon Moxley
Wifey: Jon Moxley
Final Burial: Christian Cage vs. Jack Perry
Christian Cage made his surprise return a couple of weeks ago to attack Jungle Boy Jack Perry. He’s continued to get the jump on Jack ever since his return, outsmarting the young Perry every step of the way. This feud could come to a head on Sunday at Revolution. I say could because I wonder if this feud is ending. Christian Cage just came back, which leads me to believe that he wouldn’t lose his returning match. On the other hand, Jack Perry is on fire right now. This one is a true coin flip.
The deciding factor in this match will more than likely revolve around the forgotten Luchasaurus, whom we haven’t seen since Full Gear. The Dinosaur with a master’s degree returns to help his former friend finally defeat his hated enemy.
One side note – what the heck is a Final Burial match? Are we getting something cinematic?
Winner: Jungle Boy Jack Perry
Wifey: Jungle Boy Jack Perry
TNT Championship: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Wardlow
Samoa Joe is still TNT Champion, King of Television, and the Samoan Submission Machine. Therefore, I shall never pick against the perfect champion for fear of angering the greatest champion alive. Samoa Joe in a squash!
Okay, in all seriousness, Samoa Joe has been awesome in AEW. His feud with Darby Allin was amazing, and intense, and cemented him near the top of AEW’s heel ranks. Wardlow coming back for revenge is great and all, except Joe needs more time with the belt. Joe needs to bully people around more, causing all sorts of havoc for people trying to knock him down a peg. I think Wardlow makes it close, but Samoa Joe submits the Wardog.
Winner: Samoa Joe
Wifey: Wardlow
Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks
Nobody understands this feud anymore. Ricky Starks proved that he could defeat Jericho two months ago but then needed to prove himself more…? Throughout the previous month, he engaged in a number of battles with the Jericho Appreciation Society, which eventually culminated in this match at Revolution. Starks tricking Jericho last week on Dynamite was great, however.
Who wins? It HAS to be Ricky Starks. The Absolute One finally vanquishes the Ocho and moves on to greener pastures.
Winner: Ricky Starks
Wifey: Chris Jericho
AEW Women’s World Championship: Jaime Hayter (c) vs. Saraya vs. Ruby Soho
I called this Saraya/Ruby Soho/Hayter/Britt feud a mess in a previous Dynamite review, and I still feel that way. Saraya and Toni Storm have teamed up to usurp Jaime Hayter and Britt Baker as the stalwarts in the division. AEW is “Saraya’s House,” and she wants everyone to know that she belongs at the top, not Britt Baker (or Jaime Hayter I suppose).
So this has created a divide with Ruby Soho in the middle, who just wants a shot at the title. Ruby Soho doesn’t want to align herself with either Britt nor Saraya, especially because it’s like a high school drama. It’s the Mean Girls versus the Cool Girls, with the Punk Rocker not giving a shit.
Predicting the outcome of this wacky feud feels like picking lotto numbers. Jaime Hayter should win, but who knows what will actually happen. Ruby Soho will probably decide the winner by finally picking a side in the match, for some reason. Maybe Jaime Hayter steals the match from Ruby, which causes Ruby to officially join team Saraya.
Sure. Let’s go with that! Jaime wins a match that will be great, in all honesty.
Winner: Jaime Hayter
Wifey: Saraya
AEW World Championship 60-Minute Iron Man match: MJF (c) vs. Bryan Danielson
It all comes down to this. Bryan Danielson and Maxwell Jacob Friedman for the AEW World Championship in an Iron Man match. A full hour of pain and suffering for our enjoyment. Bryan Danielson, one of the greatest to ever do it, against MJF, one of the best performers in wrestling today. This one is going to be amazing.
Bryan Danielson has been put through the wringer to get his shot at the AEW Championship. He had to go through Konosuke Takeshita, Bandido, Brian Cage, Timothy Thatcher, and Rush to get awarded the number one contendership and earn this spot against MJF, who did his damndest to prevent the Dragon from getting to this point.
And now we’re at Revolution in a 60 minute Iron Man match. Danielson is known for his stamina in the ring. Can MJF hang with him? MJF doesn’t wrestle all that often, but he reminds everyone how good he is when he does.
I do not see a path for AEW to relinquish MJF of the title right now. He just won the belt at Full Gear, and only had one defense against Ricky Starks. Bryan Danielson has had a fantastic run, but the American Dragon will fall short in a classic Iron Man match. This one has the match of the year possibility.
Winner: MJF
Wifey: MJF
